Probiotics
are the good and useful bacteria that reside in the
intestine, facilitate the digestion and elimination
processes, kill any harmful pathogens, and neutralize
the toxins. They secrete beneficial chemicals such as B
vitamins, vitamin K, lactic acid, butyric acid and
anti-microbial compounds called bacteriocins. Around the
genitals they help to maintain pH balance. A thriving
population of probiotics would imply that the Candida
encounters a stiff competition for food and space. Also,
the environment is more hostile to Candida overgrowth
and thus, yeast infection is naturally defended by the
body. With probiotics in your body, you are strong,
protected, and vibrant.

In
fact, the Candida albicans, when present within certain
limits, is one of the many useful fungi that reside in
your gut and genito-urinal tract. It’s when your
imbalanced physical environment allows uncontrolled
growth of the Candida, that the fungus turns invasive,
develops leg-like structures called rhizoids,
overpopulates the gut and penetrates its walls. It
spreads in the genitals causing infection that leads to
itching, swelling, and burning sensations.
Depletion of
probiotics
400 different types of helpful bacteria are
estimated to be present in your gut – amounting to
almost 100 trillion probiotics! Depletion of probiotics
makes you internally weak, and leaves more space for the
Candida to take over. In other words, if the probiotics
are absent, the Candida fungi then
rule!
Toxins in food, effects of drug, pH
imbalance, antibiotics, steroids and other external and
internal factors can deplete the reservoir of probiotics
in your body.
Replenishment of
probiotics
The natural flora of the gut can be restored
by replenishing probiotics in your system. The best probiotics that
kill Candida are the ones that make the internal
environment least favourable to any anaerobic growth
(Candida is anaerobic). The following bacteria are known
to fight Candida infection, and have been arranged in
decreasing order of their
importance.

Instructions for taking
Probiotics
- Choose a high-potency, high quality
bacteria.
- Your supplement should incorporate between
1 to 20 billion live bacteria in one day. You can
segment them into 3 to 4 doses a
day.
- Probiotics should be taken on an empty
stomach at least 30 minutes prior to
eating.
- Take an ideal mixture of ‘live’ organisms
from the given list.
- Check for expiry date on the label of the
supplement.
- Avoid extremely high or extremely low
temperatures for storage, unless specified
otherwise.
- Consume prebiotics – the food for the
probiotics, in order to make them stay alive and
multiply faster.
Sources of
probiotics
Probiotics may be taken as supplements. In
the natural form they are available in rich quantities
in plain yoghurt – unprocessed, unheated, unpasteurised,
and with no added sugar, additives, preservatives, or
flavours. Kefir, when labelled as having ‘live’ bacteria
is also a rich source of probiotics. Fermented
cabbage and soy sauce containing the label ‘active’ or
‘cultures’ may be good sources of
probiotics.
Be
persistent. If you decide to take probiotics for your
Candida infection, you should stick to your course and
complete the dosage of probiotics – or else the Candida
will not be killed. Probiotics work slowly and steadily.
The more disciplined you are, the more benefits you can
obtain!
While
instilling probiotics is a good way to deal with Candida
infection, it must be coupled with other measures that
address all the factors responsible for yeast infection.
Yeast infection is a function of multiple parameters
such as your diet, lifestyle, stress management, your
inherent toxin-expelling capability and your hygiene
practices. The holistic treatment for yeast infection
tackles all these issues and restores your natural body
balance. Note that, treating a single factor will cause
the infection to make a stronger come-back, and thus
holistic treatment is the best way to eliminate Candida
completely and naturally.
